Gedmatch: Cousin Connections

Reflecting back over the week, Gedmatch is on the move.  After checking my Gedmatch account to see if any updates occurred, I noticed a familiar name.  A long time genealogy researcher Vicky, of Mariah’s Zepherwas the third person listed on my One To Many report results.  Welcome Cousin Vicky :)

Vicky and I sent several notes back and forth, and laughed a little. She told me to look at an individual we both had in common who I will refer to by the name of “Meek.” Low and behold while looking at the comparisons of Meek and myself, I said to Vicky, “ did you see any other familiar names?”  Vicky said who, "I responded Luckie."  She said, “Luckie, of Our Georgia Roots.”  I said, "Luckie, is listed there too."  The common thread on Gedmatch so far between Vicky, Luckie and myself is Meek.   There is a lot of work to be done to truly narrow down the connections that Meek has with the three of us.  Welcome aboard cousins!!    To be continued…

Another connection made this week via Gedmatch comes from an individual by the name of Andy, who was also on my 23andme listing of possible matches.  Andy is the first person listed in my results from the reports ran in Gedmatch.  I’m pretty good with names, so when I recognized his, I immediately emailed him regarding the Gedmatch results.  Andy and I have corresponded back and forth yesterday and today.  He is an adoptee, but fortunate enough to have his maternal family tree, and has confirmed connections to some relatives at 23andme. He has completed DNA testing with AncestryDNA, FTDNA and 23andme.  I’m hoping we can find the link that connects the two of us as well.  Welcome aboard Andy.  The journey continues

Wow, this is good news. I can't wait to find out how you all are connected. It must be really exciting to find your cousins.

It's important to share with the Adoptees! If I can't do nothing else I can share my Genomes! It's already hard enough for us that know our TREE! Love the Connections we are all making on Gedmatch and through DNA!

My goodness, you do have me excited about the Cousin Journey ahead JMac! I've not spent much time with my 23andMe or GEDmatch results but I have a feeling that's about to change! Makes me wonder as the science of DNA evolves, what will all our connections look like in the years to come! Keep me posted -- I'm in... Cousin!:)

Thanks everyone for your feedback. For some reason I cannot send individual responses to your comments. I'm not sure what's going on...maybe it's time for a change.

If DNA testing wasn't introduced to the genealogy community, we wouldn't be having such awesome discoveries. Vicky, Luckie and I have been long time gena buddies.!:) Our research has come a long way! Finding the links to the new cousin connections will be challenging as is with all research, however, it can be done.

The journey continues down a new path, and it's going to be exciting one!! We will persever. Thanks again.

M. Dawn, thanks for stopping by, and providing feedback. It's exciting when you do find a match. I spent a lot of time poking around in Gedmatch the last couple of day. They are updating reports and adding info frequently. There are cousins waiting to be found:)
