Wordless Wednesday: What Typos Can Do: Murteen (Baylor) Hill

One typo can make a world of difference especially in the genealogy world.  A recent visit to NJ led to the discovery of the burial site of my great aunt Murteen (Baylor) Hill.

On the way to another family member's gravesite, I checked back with the office to see if Aunt Murteen was buried there.  In the past, I was always told there was no record of anyone by her name in their files.
The Discovery

The Cemetery office file was recorded as: Musteen Hill

Headstone read:  Murteen Hill
(the correct spelling of her given/first name)

Aunt Murteen passed May 12, 1952 of diabetes in Newark, NJ.   This information was recorded in a family Bible, and on record at the cemetery.

The cemetery personnel were very helpful in finding her grave.  If it wasn’t for being persistent, following up, and asking questions, her gravesite may still be unknown.

Her name has been corrected on the cemetery records for future generations to come.

The journey continues……
